COMRED is implementing projects across the Kenyan Coast, in collaboration with coastal communities, university institutions, government officials, the private sector and other strategic partners. These projects are largely aimed at livelihoods enhancement, conservation and capacity building.

Provision of Strategic Support to GEF SGP for the Shimoni – Vanga Seascape Community Projects

Dates: 2018 – 2020

Location: Shimoni – Vanga co-management area, Kwale County

Funding Organisation: GEF – Small Grants Programme (SGP)

Description: This project, located at the transboundary area between Kenya and Tanzania, aims at providing strategic support to GEF SGP community projects in order to promote biodiversity conservation and improve livelihoods while creating a platform for lasting partnerships. Ongoing activities include;

  • Providing technical proposal writing support to community groups
  • Facilitating the establishment of a multi-stakeholder forum
  • Developing a participatory seascape strategy
  • Generating and sharing knowledge management and communication materials
  • Aligning SGP-funded activities with county government priorities
  • Facilitating participatory monitoring of SGP community projects within the seascape
