Community Liaison Coordinator
The Community Liaison Coordinator (CLC) will be part of a larger team working in COMRED project areas. The CLC will coordinate and plan field activities, documentation, and reporting within the approved scope of work, budget, and set deadlines. He/she will be expected to provide on-the-ground coordination support to field teams in aspects of fisheries data collection, eco-credit group operations, monitoring of mangrove restoration activities, and follow-ups.
Who we are looking for
A self-driven individual who is open to new areas of learning, who freely interacts with communities, and who is comfortable working in the field under outdoor conditions. The applicant should be knowledgeable about coastal community dynamics and marine conservation and specifically demonstrate practical experience of community-based conservation and development initiatives in Kenya. An independent thinker who is able to work in a team to solve complex problems in challenging and dynamic situations.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specifically, the CLC will undertake the following tasks in consultation with the Program Manager and COMRED Technical Advisors.
- Coordination support and project operations.
- Lead COMRED’s community engagement activities.
- Promote constructive engagement between communities and COMRED.
- Implement COMRED’s stakeholder engagement plan.
- Produce timely feedback to COMRED on relevant issues, opportunities, and challenges identified/raised by community members during project development, implementation, and monitoring.
- Operationalize a Project Grievance Response Mechanism and document arising and potential grievances or project risks and their mitigation actions.
- Produce timely feedback to the community concerning grievance redress.
- Support the Program Manager during the implementation of project activities to enhance local community members access to project opportunities and benefits; ensuring gender equality and equity.
- Contribute to stakeholder engagement logistics such as arranging meetings, collecting ideas, issues and suggestions.
- Support COMRED’s community outreach activities.
- Support data collection, including monitoring and evaluation of COMRED’s projects.
- Undertake any other duties assigned by the Program Manager.
Documentation& communication
- Contribute to documentation of key learnings and best practices.
- Identify community needs for fundraising purposes as guided by the Program Manager and Technical Advisors.

Qualifications
Technical
A Bachelor’s degree in Community Development with a minimum of two cumulative years’ experience working with coastal communities in community development projects or a diploma in Community Development and a minimum of five years’ experience working with community development projects, two of which should be coastal. A Master's degree is an added advantage.
- Proven experience in technical reporting and convening of stakeholder meetings and workshops.
- Reasonable knowledge of adult learning, education, and extension.
- Familiar with electronic data collection and monitoring tools such as Kobo, ODK, App sheets, etc.
Communications
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili (required). Knowledge of local coastal languages and residency inKwale County is an advantage.
- Excellent writing skills,with a proven track record in report writing.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to give strong public presentations, particularly at the community level.
- Ability to deliver training, awareness, and sensitization both to groups and one-on-one.
Reporting
The Community Liaison coordinator shall report directly to the Program Manager.
Working hours
- Official office working hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday except for official public holidays.
- Field working days and hours will depend on the nature of the assignment.
