๐ฌ๏ธ Voices for Climate Action
In partnership with WWF-Kenya, we implemented Voices for Climate Action; a one-year initiative that supports local civil society and under-represented groups, especially women, in the Shimoni-Vanga seascape to strengthen climate literacy, build leadership, and drive marine conservation action.

๐ก Why It Matters
Women, youth and local communities along Kenyaโs coast are frontline witnesses to climate change: rising sea levels, saltwater intrusion, habitat loss and shrinking fisheries. But too often their voices stay silent. This innitiative sets out to change that by boosting knowledge of marine habitats (mangroves, seagrass, coral reefs), integrating indigenous knowledge systems, and equipping local actors to lead climate-resilient change.
โ๏ธ How It Works
- ๐ Training & Literacy: 57 community members (30 youth, 27 women) trained on climate change, mangrove restoration, fisheries value chains and seaweed production.
- ๐บ๏ธ Mapping Knowledge: Developed maps of shoreline change, salt-water intrusion and drought impacts across habitats in the seascape.
- ๐งต Amplifying Voices: Created a gender guide and built capacity so women lead conservation efforts, advocate for nature-based solutions, and engage in policy dialogue.

The Impact
๐ Milestones & Impact
- ๐ฉโ๐ 57 local actors trained (30 youth, 27 women) in climate literacy and marine habitat value.
- ๐ Developed climate-impact maps for coastal habitats in the Shimoni-Vanga seascape.
- ๐ Created and deployed a gender guide to ensure inclusive design and implementation of climate projects.
