💡 Why It Matters
Ports are the lifelines of coastal economies. Yet, without coordinated planning, they can strain natural ecosystems, displace communities, and worsen pollution. Bandari Bora fosters dialogue between cities and ports to create inclusive, data-driven urban systems that balance economic ambition with sustainability.
⚙️ How It Works
- 🧭 Spatial Assessment: Developing land-use survey profiles for Mombasa, Durban, and Moroni to understand how city and port expansion affect coastal zones.
- 🗺️ Mapping & Analysis: Producing Land Use and Land Cover Change (LULC) spatial maps for Mombasa and Durban, and conducting spatial-temporal analyses of land cover change across all three cities.
- 🤝 Stakeholder Engagement: Convening port and city stakeholders in Moroni, Durban, and Mombasa, and establishing the Moroni Technical Working Group to guide port-city planning and coordination.

The Impact
📊 Milestones & Impact
- 🌍 Land-use survey profiles developed for Mombasa, Durban, and Moroni.
- 🗺️ LULC maps completed for Mombasa and Durban.
- ⏳ Spatial and temporal analyses conducted for Moroni, Durban, and Mombasa, providing insights into coastal land-cover change.
- 🤝 Multi-stakeholder dialogues held with port and city actors across the three sites.
- 🏗️ Moroni Technical Working Group established to support integrated port-city planning.
